Our Approach

The ideal approach to a seamless project is to be part of the project from the outset. In this way from inception, we are able to assist with the visualisation of how life will be lived in each property and to be sure from the very start that the design can be optimised.

We regularly work as part of a larger design team and have extensive experience in working with many architectural practices, as well as specialist consultants associated with such projects.

We believe that successful interior design is developed in partnership and conversation with clients. Through this relationship we can unlock the full potential of the ambitions a client has for their property as an investment, home and work of art. The design develops through dialogue. We do not dictate an approach, rather, drawing out the individual personality of the client which is carefully detailed in every aspect of their home.

The Client Role in the Process

The levels of client interaction vary with each project; from hands-on to hand-off, this decision is entirely theirs. Every element and cost are recorded and can be communicated whenever requested or timetabled. The process is organised around a client’s busy lifestyle to protect them from the complexity of delivering a high-quality project, whilst still involving them in the more interesting aspects or areas of the design they are particularly passionate about.

The Design Process

It all starts with a ‘get to know’ the client meeting. We interpret what we learn about a client’s tastes and aspirations, to create spaces that perfectly express their individuality, so, a deep level of understanding is crucial.

Initially, we work very closely with the client on the architectural plans and detailing to ensure the spaces function harmoniously. To achieve this, comprehensive architectural drawing packages are prepared by our studio using CAD software, combined with renders and traditional hand drawings. The drawing package will include every design aspect of a project from detailed plans and elevations to full size technical drawings for detailed cabinetry and custom-designed furniture.

Quality takes time and money, so every stage is worked through carefully before on-site work commences. By following RIBA project stages and revealing the design through drawings and samples, a client can fully engage with what they are buying to achieve their ambitions.

The design process discovers and solves a complex mix of myriad requirements including natural light, art collections, spatial flow, or more practical decisions such as functional storage, security, sound engineering or heating and ventilation. A rigorous design process is vital to manage cost and increase quality. Orla comments “I like to get the best result for clients by saving money where reasonably possible to allow them to spend more in the prominent areas of the design.”

Bespoke & Methods

The studio is small but mighty with an enviable list of some of the world’s most extraordinary material suppliers and craftsmen that enables us to coordinate aspects from bespoke chandeliers, lacquer work, frescos, gilding, ornate plasterwork through to a sprung floor for a ballroom. Every detail is meticulously designed to tell stories or reveal details that reflect the client, sometimes on a grand scale and sometimes in secret details only known by the client. We commission artists and craftspeople on the client’s behalf to reveal stunning artworks that are one of a kind.

Properties Delivered & Methods

The properties completed by our studio range from listed stately homes in countryside landscapes, standalone historic, contemporary or overseas houses, through to large, terraced townhouses and apartments in the centre of London.
